Phil DeloriaPhil Deloria

Phil Deloria is looking forward to addressing the challenges and opportunities of his new position as Technology Coordinator at Public Health Library & Informatics. The excitement of helping faculty integrate the tools of the digital age into their teaching and the rewarding experience of making a collection's resources more widely available online has also led Phil to the pursuit of a graduate degree in Information Science at the UM School of Information. He is interested in the potential of digital technologies to improve the services provided by libraries and archives in the future.

Phil received his undergraduate degree in Classical Archaeology from the University of Michigan in 2004. While an undergraduate, Phil spent three years working with the Visual Resources Collections of the Department of the History of Art, helping to make digital resources available to a faculty accustomed to using 35mm slides for classroom presentation. This past summer, Phil worked as an assistant to the conservator in the Papyrus Collection of the University of Michigan . There, in addition to learning conservation skills, Phil created a virtual exhibit that documented a project to break several papyrus seals of that had been in place for more than a millennium.

Phil Deloria was born and raised in Petoskey , Michigan where he developed his fly fishing and canoeing skills before leaving the nest to make his way in the world. He resides in Ann Arbor with his wife Abigail.

Jason NargisJason Nargis

Jason Nargis is the University Library Associate for 2005-2007 at Public Health Library & Informatics. He is a first-year graduate student at the School of Information and will be working half-time at PHLI providing reference assistance, teaching workshops, creating online tutorials, and working on other special projects. He looks forward to applying his experience, skills, and study to serve the community at SPH.

Jason received his undergraduate degree in Comparative Literature in 2000 from Oberlin College , spending semesters abroad in Córdoba , Spain and Strasbourg , France . He eventually settled in San José , California where he worked on several studies for Stanford University and the State of California investigating the effects of alcohol and tobacco advertising on children and adolescents.

He also spent two years as a Program Manager for City Year San José, an Americorps program that focuses on youth leadership development and educational enrichment. Each year he led a diverse team of 10-12 corps members between the ages of 17-24 as they completed 10 months of full-time community service at two under-resourced elementary schools. Their work included tutoring, after-school enrichment, running sports leagues, and planning community service events.

Over the past year Jason worked as a Communications Assistant with the Development, Marketing, and Communications department of the UM College of LS&A where he spent much of his time writing, editing, and researching for LSAmagazine , the college's alumni magazine. A passion for equality of access to information, a deep interest in the ongoing digitization of resources, and a love of old books, papers, and maps brought him to Information Science. He is interested in a career as an academic reference librarian and/or archivist.

Jason grew up near Empire, Michigan on the Leelanau Peninsula . There, the temperate seasons helped him develop a love of the outdoors and the harsher months instilled in him a love for literature and woodstoves. Jason lives on the Old West Side of Ann Arbor with his girlfriend, Seneca, and his cat, Lorca.
