Health Sciences Librarian Exchange
Helen Look from PHLI and Theresa (Terry) Arndt from Taubman Medical Library are participating in an innovative exchange program this year. Two days per week these librarians swap places, so that each can work at the other’s library. The part-time exchange provides each with a professional growth opportunity close to home, allowing them to broaden their experience within health sciences librarianship as a whole by being exposed to new disciplines and services.
"I’ve loved working more closely with our colleagues at Taubman Medical Library and engaging in collaborative projects."
-Helen Look
As part of the exchange, Helen has joined the Education and Information Services departments at Taubman Medical Library. She can often be found answering questions at the reference desk or assisting with library workshops. Helen is applying her knowledge of collections and electronic resources to support the health sciences campus.
Some of her recent projects include teaching a workshop on Finding Full-Text Articles and Books, evaluating electronic resources including SCOPUS, and reviewing overlapping areas in the library collections such as Gerontology & Geriatrics. Helen continues to serve as the Collection Management Coordinator & Special Projects Librarian at PHLI.
"I hope to build on my existing knowledge of clinical health information resources."
-Terry Arndt
Terry is applying her experience with outreach and evidence based practice to a variety of PHLI projects. "I'm looking forward to learning more about Public Health research and practice," said Terry. "I hope to build on my existing knowledge of clinical health information resources." Her projects include teaching an Evidence Based Public Health class, co-coordinating an Enriching Scholarship session highlighting PHLI activities, and assisting with development of web-based information for public health practitioners.
