The University’s Information Technology Central Services (ITCS) software loadset is now available on the four machines in the PHLI multimedia lab.  This includes software packages from Adobe, Macromedia, and Microsoft and much more.  There is also statistical software, including SAS and SPSS.  An icon which links directly to your Institutional File System, or IFS, space appears on the desktop when you login to these machines, allowing you to save files with drag-and-drop ease.  The IFS space is personal digital storage space on the University’s servers.  All students, faculty, and staff receive 1 gigabyte of space for free, with the option of purchasing more space for a small fee.  In addition to this software upgrade, there are two flatbed/feeder scanners available for public use in the lab.

The computers in the public workstation area of the library now include Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and also allow direct connection to personal IFS space.  This makes these machines much more valuable and convenient for all our users.  Three new, high-volume printers (two black and white and one color) make printing faster and easier for all library users as well.

It is also possible to connect to your IFS space from any computer with an internet connection by going to www.mfile.umich.edu and logging in using your UM username and password.  This is an exceptionally easy way to save and transfer large files between computers.
