Programs and Service

PHSAD places strong emphasis on building a stronger Public Health Family through academic programs and service. Examples of ongoing programs are listed below.


AIDS WALK ANN ARBOR

OCTOBER 2, 2005: PHSAD Members raised $400 for the Ann Arbor AIDS Walk. The walk was 5K around downtown Ann Arbor and Central Campus to raise money a for research/treatment and to raise awareness about the impact of HIV throughout the globe.


HOPE SCHOLARS

The HOPE (Health Occupation Professional Exploration) Scholars program is managed through the University of Michigan Medical School for minority high school students. PHSAD works with the students in various capacities throughout the year.

DECEMBER 1 AND 6, 2005 : Career Exploration and College Preparation. Members of PHSAD will travel to Ypsilanti to speak to students from 3:30-4:30 on both dates. Topics include an introduction to public health as a field and practical steps to prepare for college. Participants range from grades 9-11.

The HOPE scholars will participate actively in the Minority Health Conference with Youth Conference Track geared towards students in high school.

BUDDY PROGRAM

Pairs first and second year students together to provide mentoring and guidance through the transition to UM-SPH. 2005-2006 Buddies have been assigned, but is not too late to sign up. For more information on the program and upcoming events contact Lola Adebiyi.
