Public Health Practice Internships

The Office of Public Health Practice partners with organizations and agencies to provide training to the future public health workforce. Internships provide public health graduate students with practical public health experiences while providing organizations and agencies an opportunity to assist in training the future public health workforce.

SPH graduate student intern placements benefit the organization/agency and the student through the development and completion of a pre-defined project that assists the organization/agency in addressing an unmet need and assists the student in developing skills related to public health practice.

In furtherance of the mission of the Office of Public Health Practice and to provide "real world" learning experiences for our students, a limited number of competitive paid summer internships are sponsored in governmental and non-governmental public health agencies throughout the state of Michigan. The paid internships are located in community-based organizations, local health departments and in the Michigan Department of Community Health, among other organizations.

Listed below are the organizations offering field placements for summer 2009 through the Practice Office.  These internships are available only to currently enrolled SPH students.

To Apply:
1) Download the full internship descriptions or check the internship postings outside the Practice Office.
2) For each position that you are applying, submit a cover letter and resume to the Practice Office (2675 SPH Crossroads). Cover letters should be addressed to:  Dana Thomas, Internship Coordinator, 109 S. Observatory, Ann Arbor, MI 48109-2029.  Materials may be hand delivered to the Practice Office.

We strongly encourage the potential applicant to seek the resources of SPH Career Services (http://www.sph.umich.edu/careers/) on how to write effective cover letters and resumes. If you have any questions about the internship opportunities, please email internshipcoordinator@umich.edu.
