Principle Investigator: Cleopatra Caldwell, UM SPH
Community Co-PI: E. Hill DeLoney, Flint Odyssey House Health Awareness Center

Project Dates:

2007-2010

Funding:

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Description:

In partnership with Columbia University, the Prevention Research Center of Michigan is planning a large-scale replication of the Fathers and Sons Project. The Fathers and Sons Project is designed to reduce or prevent youth substance abuse, violent behavior and early sexual initiation. Its focus is on strengthening the bonds between non-resident African-American fathers and their eight to 12-year old sons. The current funding will allow for the selection of multiple sites in which to replicate the Fathers and Sons Project, to revise the curriculum, and to design a rigorous evaluation of the intervention across multiple groups.
