Friendly Access Infant Mortality Initiative (FAIMI)
Thomas
Reischl, Principal Investigator
FAIMI develops culturally competent education and advocacy;
promoting early, continuous, and appropriate prenatal care
for African American women to reduce the significant disparity
in infant mortality associated with low birth weight, and
pre-term birth or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). FAIMI's
main intervention is the African American Family Resource
Information Center and Network (AFRICAN) a service to link
African American women to available resources in the community.
AFRICAN will provide outreach through client follow up, provider
education, and social marketing directed at the community
of concern.
The Friendly Access Infant Mortality Initiative (FAIMI) is
funded by a Health Resources and Administration (HRSA) grant
to the Michigan Department of Community Health. The Greater
Flint Health Coalition is the lead organization for FAIMI
in Genesee County. The Friendly Access Infant Mortality Initiative
is a core project of the Prevention Research Center at the
University of Michigan School of Public Health (PRC).
