Ruth Mott Community Health Careers Program
Toby
Citrin , Principal Investigator
The Ruth Mott Community Health Careers Program is a group
of four interrelated programs whose purpose is to provide
youth with educational opportunities leading to health careers.
Students are placed with Flint-area community-based organizations
and health service providers, and provided with skills training
related to health career development. This program provides
an opportunity for Flint-area youth to attend the University
of Michigan School of Public Health. The four interrelated
components of the program span the educational spectrum ranging
from high school through undergraduate work to graduate school.
The four programs are: The Ruth Mott Community Health Scholars;
Community Health Explorers; The Summer Enrichment Program;
and The Graduate Scholarships for Flint Students. Taken together,
the combination of these programs represent a "pipeline"
of opportunities for Flint-area students to develop and strengthen
an interest in health careers and the skills relevant to professional
education. The programs also encourage graduate students from
other areas to consider careers working in the Flint area.
While the principal focus is on the community-based educational
experiences provided to the students, the programs provide
support to Flint-area community-based organizations and health
service providers, as well as providing educational opportunities
for children who live in the communities they serve.
