The University of Michigan Risk Science Center will host the 2013 Bernstein symposium entitled "Why Is It Hard To Pivot Based on Science?"

The symposium will take place on September 26, 2013 at Palmer Commons, on the campus of the University of Michigan.

Why is it so difficult for leaders to pivot their position based on science? What are the challenges, dangers, and opportunities of being willing (or unwilling) to move with scientific evidence?

Mark Lynas (link) will provide the featured presentation in an afternoon public lecture, followed by a panel discussion. Mark is a frequent international speaker on science and policy; and the author of The God Species: How the Planet Can Survive the Age of Humans. Lynas pivoted dramatically and publicly, reversing his position on biotechnology and food.

Mark will share his experience of pivoting based on science, and a panel of responders will explore a range of high profile issues like climate change, hydrofracking, and genetically modified foods.

The Symposium will be free and open to the public, but seats are limited and advance registration is required.

Online registration and further details will be updated as available at this website.

We look forward to seeing you at this exciting discussion in September!
