Masters of Public Health in Risk Science

Sensational headlines abound regarding public health issues resulting from human exposure to health hazards.

Is your tap water safe to drink?
Prescription drugs found in drinking water across U.S. (CNN headline, Mar. 10, 2009)

Is it safe to eat fish?
Toxic risk on your plate (Chicago Tribune headline, Dec. 11, 2005)

tightropeFinding the balance between risk/exposure and benefit/harm requires analysis and information not easily conveyed within the 10-second soundbite afforded in the day’s news.   Yet, the public and policymakers must make decisions about what presents a hazard and what should be regulated.

These issues are the focus of the MPH degree program specializing in risk science at the University of Michigan.  Through this program, the MPH graduate will benefit from:

-  training that is highly relevant to practical and essential societal decisions,

-  outstanding interdisciplinary expertise of the EHS faculties and of the University of Michigan Risk Science Center in all facets of risk,

-  opportunities to work with the latest methods, measurements techniques, and modeling skills used in risk science.
