The University of Michigan Scholars participate in a 6-week intensive seminar that meets twice a week at the beginning of the first year. The first three weeks are devoted to an introduction to the institutional issues central to health and health policy research. Each of the remaining three weeks is devoted to examining topics in health policy research from the perspective of one of the disciplines. This includes discussing topics from a disciplinary perspective and how each discipline approaches health policy research. In addition to the intensive seminar, the Scholars attend a bi-weekly interdisciplinary health policy research seminar. This seminar brings faculty from both inside and outside of the University of Michigan to present recent work in the area of health policy research. Speakers are drawn largely from the three disciplines represented in the program, and contribute to a lively and exciting multidisciplinary seminar environment. View a list of seminar speakers and topics for the 2005-2006 academic year. The main activity of Scholars is the pursuit of their own research. Support and mentoring is offered to each Scholar. Faculty from the disciplinary departments, the School of Public Health, School of Public Policy, Medical School, and other units on campus are available to provide mentoring and to advise Scholars as desired. In addition, Scholars often engage in collaborative research with faculty and/or other Scholars. |
