Eisenberg Group - Environmental Determinants of Infectious DiseasesRe-Analysis of a Water Filtration Randomized Control TrialPrincipal InvestigatorCo-Principal InvestigatorFunding SourcesVestergaard Frandsen StatusCurrent KeywordsAbout this ProjectThis is a re-analysis of a randomized control trial (RCT) conducted in the Democratic Republic of Congo of a household based water filtration device. The RCT study is described in detail in a manuscript entitled "Field assessment of a novel household-based water filtration device: a randomized, placebo-controlled trial in the Democratic Republic of Congo". It was discovered that the placebo device removed more than 90% of the thermotolerant coliforms (TTC), whereas the active filter removed about 99.8% of the TTC. We plan to develop a mathematical model that will predict the adjusted preventable risk if the placebo was a true placebo and did not remove any pathogens.
