Preceptor Goals
- Provide orientation on organization's mission, structure, policies and procedures, intern's roles and responsibilities;
- Provide guidance and direction throughout the summer placement;
- Introduce student to staff members;
- Schedule weekly conferences to review student progress, debrief following meetings, and provide career guidance, as needed;
- Provide overall supervision of student;
- Facilitate communication between student and staff;
- Provide meaningful and professional experiences in health care management (intern's assignments should not be clerical);
- Schedule student to attend staff meetings, forums, educational sessions and governance meetings;
- Schedule student to attend meeting(s) with external constituents, (i.e., Health Services agencies, County Commissioners, State Health Association, Community Forums);
- Schedule intern presentation to executive staff and board of trustees, etc.
- Include student in organization social events;
- Develop a structured project appropriate to the student's education and experience to be completed within 8 weeks;
- Evaluate student.
