The School of Public Health's "Recognizing Excellence in Staff Service Program"

The School of Public Health's "Recognizing Excellence in Staff Service Program" (RESSP) was established in 2000 to express appreciation to all SPH staff members for their service and accomplishments throughout the year. The Program acknowledges staff's vital contributions, which make SPH one of the nation's premier schools of public health.

As part of the program, awards will be granted to three staff members chosen from a pool of nominees (nomination guidelines are listed below).

The Reception

Please join us on Thursday, May 3, 2012 from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. in SPH Community Lounge (1680 SPH I) for the annual reception to express appreciation to all SPH staff for their service and accomplishments throughout the year.

Selected staff members will receive special recognition for their outstanding contributions to the School as recipients of this year’s “Excellence in Staff Service Awards.”

In addition, staff members celebrating milestone anniversaries of 10, 20, 30 and 40 years of service (as of December 31, 2011) at the University of Michigan will be acknowledged.

Photos from previous year receptions are available on the SPH Intranet under "People at SPH."

The Award

Each winner will receive

  • a cash award of $1,000 (net);
  • an engraved plaque;
  • acknowledgement at the "Recognizing Excellence in Staff Service" reception on May 3rd; and
  • recognition of award in a showcase in SPH.

Eligibility

All full- and part-time regular, non-faculty employees in the School, regardless of length of service, are eligible for nomination. This includes all office, technical, research, and administrative staff. Nominations will only be accepted for individual staff.

Please note: Temporary employees, students, faculty, previous award winners, and RESSP Committee members are not eligible for nomination. Eligibility questions should be addressed to the selection committee, c/o 2012ressp@umich.edu.

Criteria

The Committee will review the nomination applications and look for examples of excellence in the nominees' service along with significant contributions to the School, based on the following qualities:

  • demonstrates outstanding initiative or creativity;
  • fosters collaboration and cooperation among colleagues;
  • facilitates the success of others;
  • exhibits qualities such as dependability, patience, commitment and a positive attitude toward their job and co-workers; and
  • willingness to take on new and/or additional tasks and to pitch in when needed.

Please be specific while preparing nomination materials by providing examples and details of what your candidate has done that highlight each of the selection criteria. Avoid general statements such as: "The nominee has a pleasant personality," "The nominee is a seasoned professional," or "The nominee is always helpful." These statements do not provide the specific information necessary for ranking nominees.
