Welcome to the University of Michigan School of Public Health!

All incoming M.P.H., M.S. and M.H.S.A. students are expected to attend the two-day orientation.
(For incoming Ph.D. students, this event is optional. Ph.D. students: Save the date for your welcome lunch on September 8, 12 - 2 p.m.)

First day, Aug. 31: The Practice Plunge is a one-day immersive experience to introduce public health practice. You will learn about the roles and functions of health departments and the rewards and challenges of population health from experienced public health leaders. You will also have the opportunity to "get involved" through service to a local community-based organization. At the end of the day, you will have learned more about public health practice, networked with public health professionals, contributed to improved health, and developed relationships with peers across departments. Welcome to public health in action!

Second day, Sept. 1, starts your journey to becoming an informed public health professional by acquiring key information including SPH programming, departmental sessions, career advancement, an opportunity to connect with fellow students, and other valuable resources. Your SPH Citizenship is a commitment built upon a culture of integrity, inclusion, and innovation to solve world health problems. You'll be asked after you register for orientation to add your voice: a word or two about what citizenship means to you.
