Bulletin boards for student event postings are located on the wall of the Crossroads Cafe. Postings are coordinated through the PHSA facilities liaison. (See also the list of links at right for publicizing events and news.)

Student E-mail Groups at SPH

1. Current students have mandatory inclusion in sph.students@umich.edu (moderated by the Office of Academic Affairs); Students are responsible for receiving and acting upon these e-mails related to:

  • School policy changes, registration, emergency procedures, and information deemed important to students by the SPH administration.
  • Note: sph.students is a subset of sph.all@umich.edu for information deemed important to the whole school.

2. Everyone at SPH can opt in or out of sph-open@umich.edu (unmoderated);

  • Students, faculty and staff can join or resign from this group through the University of Michigan Online Directory (UMOD)
  • Members of sph-open are, by self-inclusion, open to receiving e-mails from SPH community about a range of topics (current events, issues, opportunities, trading of books and tickets, and other miscellanea). Members must communicate respectfully, and violations of the University of Michigan Responsible Use Policy could result in removal from the group and disciplinary procedures. Excerpts from the Responsible Use Policy include:
    • To respect the privacy of other users; for example, you shall not intentionally seek information on, ..., shall not represent others, ..., nor shall you divulge sensitive personal data ...
    • To respect the rights of other users; for example, you shall comply with all University policies regarding sexual, racial, and other forms of harassment.
    • To respect the intended usage of resources; for example, you shall use only those resources assigned to you ... for the purposes specified, .... You may not use University resources assigned to you or others for profit-making or fund-raising activities unless explicitly authorized to do so by the appropriate authority.
    • To respect the shared nature of resources; for example, you shall avoid activities that unreasonably tax system resources or that, through frivolous use, go beyond the intended use of the system.
    • To respect the intended usage of systems for electronic exchange ...; for example, you shall not send forged electronic mail, mail that will intimidate or harass other users, chain messages that can interfere with the efficiency of the system, mass mailings not related to the topic(s) of the addressed group(s), or promotional mail for profit-making purposes

In addition to the above methods for communication, the Public Health Student Assembly and leaders of SPH student organizations maintain a CTools site, "Activities@SPH" that serves as coordination tool, minimizing the need for emailing about logistical or collaborative issues. It contains a shared calendar for student organization, wiki-documents with student leadership info, discussion sections, student organization resources, and more.
