At UM SPH, we are fortunate to be located in a very safe community. Its safety, however, depends upon our consistent implementation of the steps necessary to keep each other, ourselves, our buildings, and our belongings secure.

Reporting Campus Crime and Suspicious Activity

If this is an EMERGENCY or the crime you wish to report is in progress, call "911" or "(734) 763-1131."

  • Call DPS immediately if you observe suspicious behavior in your building;
  • Protect a potential crime scene by not entering the immediate area until police arrive;
  • Carefully follow established security procedures, especially for secured areas; and
  • Keep doors locked especially during non-business hours and not prop open any doors.

Crime Alerts: Crime alerts are issued through the campus mail, posted around campus, as well as on the Public Safety website. If you wish to be notified by e-mail of new crime alerts, please e-mail crime.alert.request@umich.edu with the subject as Crime Alert Notification Request and the e-mail address you wish to use.

UM Emergency Preparedness

SPH Security

The new SPH building complex is contiguous and includes sensitive areas that require greater security. Please note:

  1. DO NOT use specialized keys to hold doors open at anytime during the day or night.
  2. DO NOT leave keys in doors.
  3. Please make certain that you are aware of your surroundings and that you secure your belongings in locked cabinets, draws, etc. 
  4. Second floor conference rooms in the Crossroads locked by 5:00 p.m. 
  5. Televisions in the conference rooms on the first floor are for educational purposes. Viewing of news and current event programming is encouraged.  However, these rooms are not intended to be used as lounges. Please allow colleagues who require a quite area for study or conferencing to use these spaces.
