Along with basic UM financial aid information, Rackham Graduate School fellowships, and external fellowships, these opportunities may interest various student populations.
American Indian/Alaskan Native
- Native American Research Centers for Health (NARCH): Provides funding to AI/AN Tribes or Tribally based organizations to create partnerships with research institutions and conduct high quality biomedical, behavioral and health services research that will be relevant to the needs of the Tribes. In FY 2007, over $7million went to NARCH grantees in grants ranging from about $100,000 to over $1,000,000.
- Alburquerque Area Southwest Tribal Epidemiology Center (AASTEC): Operates under the organizational structure of the Albuquerque Area Indian Health Board, Inc. (AAIHB), which comprises of 27 American Indian tribes and communities in Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas. AASTEC’s mission is to collaborate with the southwest tribes to provide health-related research surveillance and training to improve the quality of life of American Indians. They offer scholarships for graduate research, biomedical research, and earning a master in public health.
- Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC): Every year, ANTHC offers five scholarships of $5,000 to full-time graduate students in healthcare-related fields who are Alaska Native or American Indian permanent Alaska residents.
- American Indian College Fund: Provides several scholarship programs for American Indian students in public universities.
- American Indian Graduate Center: Offers multiple scholarships to American Indian and Alaskan Native graduate students. Three of their scholarships are offered specifically to students receiving a graduate degree in public health or a health-related field.
Women
- Center for the Education of Women: University of Michigan
- International Federation of University Women (IFUW): Offers a scholarship to graduate women who have been displaced by war.
- Women's Leadership Scholarship (WLS): Women’s Leadership Scholarship creates educational opportunities for women around the world who are grassroots leaders, organizers and activists demonstrating financial need. WLS invests in women's leadership and leadership development by supporting non-doctoral graduate education in human rights, sustainable development, and public health. The WLS awards 4-6 scholarships per year, up to $25,000 per academic year for a maximum of two years. The awards help the recipients meet the costs of tuition, fees, books, educational supplies, housing, maintenance, and travel to and from the home country and the educational institution.

- Corris Boyd Scholars Program: Offers two $40,000 scholarships to deserving students of color entering a graduate program in healthcare management. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements and submit all materials by the deadline to be considered for the scholarship.
Hispanics
International Students
International students (non-U.S. citizens and non-permanent residents) are admitted with the understanding that they have sufficient financial resources to cover their program of study. Although they are not eligible for federal financial aid from the School of Public Health, a limited number of teaching and research assistantships are competitively awarded to international students through school departments. For more information, consult the Office of Financial Aid and the International Center at the University of Michigan. The following are possible funding sources:
- Fulbright Scholarships: The Fulbright Foreign Student Program works to build understanding between the United States and other countries through the exchange of persons, knowledge, and skill. Every year, more than 1,800 Fulbright scholars come from around the world to study in the United States.

Horace H. Rackham Graduate School Fellowships
Students pursuing a M.S. or Ph.D. may be eligible for fellowships administered through the Office of Student Recruitment and Support of the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies. Guidelines, nomination forms, and applications are available at the Rackham website, along with eligibility requirements and selection criteria.
