International Applicants

About 12% of students at SPH are from countries other than the United States. They are an important part of our community and make valuable contributions. Applicants who are not citizens or permanent residents of the United States do have additional considerations and steps to complete when applying to a program at UM SPH. As a result, it is extremely important for these applicants to submit an application early.

M.S. and Ph.D. Applicants:
Refer to the Rackham Graduate School website.

  • Applicants to the Health Management and Policy M.S. program with transcripts from an international institution (non-U.S. university, college, or school) are required to submit credential evaluations from WES directly to the department.

M.P.H. and M.H.S.A. Applicants:
All applicants must have a U.S. bachelor's degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution. If your degree is from a non-U.S. college or school, the institution must be recognized and approved by the Ministry of Education or commission responsible for higher education in the country where the degree is earned. Applicants with transcripts from an international institution (non-U.S. university, college, or school) are required to submit credential evaluations from WES along with their official transcripts.

Applications are available through SOPHAS and HAMPCAS . SOPHAS is for all programs, HAMPCAS may be substituted for the Health Management & Policy programs. If you submit one, there is no need to submit the other. You may check with the specific application as to the date it becomes available. The hard deadline for applications from international students is January 15th.

Applicants who are requesting a Student Visa will need to submit a copy of their passport and Proof of Funding documentation before any I-20 requests can be processed. Proof of Funding documentation and passport copies may be mailed to the University of Michigan School of Public Health Office of Academic Affairs, 1415 Washington Heights, Ann Arbor, MI 48109-2029. The deadline for providing Proof of Funding or submitting financial documents required for I-20 processing was May 1.
