Music intro: Hail to the Victors instrumental
Doctor Sanjay Gupta is the Senior Medical Correspondent for C.N.N. He says: "Hello I'm Dr. Sanjay Gupta a proud University of Michigan graduate. If you are watching this video then you are in the process of deciding which School of Public Health you may want to attend. Over the next few minutes you are going to see and hear why the University of Michigan School of Public Health is a great school."
Martin Philbert is a UM SPH professor. He says, "Our faculty are world renowned and highly respected in areas that range from epidemiology, biostatistics, environmental health sciences, health management and policy and health behavior health education."
Marc Zimmerman is a UM SPH professor: He says, "U of M School of Public health is arguably the preeminent university in the world that does behavioral science research mainly because every deptartment you think of is in the top five."
Allison Aiello is a UM SPH assistant professor. She says, "We have excellent excellent students on both at the masters level as well as the Ph.D. level. The students can often jump right into a research project and hit the road running as soon as they get here at the University of Michigan in terms if learning about research and really conducting serious field epidemiology."
Gerald Keeler is a UM SPH professor. He says, "My own approach to doing research is that I enjoy working with students and seeing students develop into researchers and so all of the research that I am involved in involves students. Every project involves at least one student and most projects involve several students. Most people in public health or environmental science or those areas are here because we are passionate about what we are doing. It’s not just the pursuit for one discipline it’s actually trying to make the world a better place."
Angela Williams is a UM SPH student. She says, "Some of the most respected experts in the country are at the University of Michigan and there are people who have – individuals who have experience both working in Michigan, working in South Africa, working all over the world and they really bring a wide variety of knowledge to the classroom."
Rohan Jeremiah is a UM SPH student. He says, "I think Michigan is particularly unique in the opportunities of giving you the chance to do a lot of interdisciplinary and collaborative work across many different spectrums whether its population studies, reproductive health or even disaster preparedness."
Howard Hu is a UM SPH professor. He says, "Interdisciplinary is what public health is all about. You need to be able to marry the hard science labratory techniques, with statistics and behavior and working with people in epidemiology."
Larry Brilliant is a UM SPH Alumnus and Executive Director of Google.org. He says, "I have now had the pleasure of lecturing, teaching or being a faculty member at half a dozen very prestigious universities, none of them were as well run as Ann Arbor. We forget about that, the invisible stuff. The administration is here to serve the students, serve the faculty, serve the mission of research in service and teaching."
Ken Warner is UM SPH Dean. He says, "Every one of you will have an opportunity to influence the welfare of your fellow human beings. I can't think of a field that is more rewarding than that."
Greg Cherkowsi is a UM SPH student. He says, "As you are giving me the practical experience of the internship, you know, I am working with people and the local government, the state government to get a feel for that but I also get to experience the academic side which is the methodology and the statistics which is really integral to getting a doctoral degree."
Luis Gonzalez is a UM SPH student. He says, "When I looked at a lot of the faculty profiles I was really impressed and just having the pleasure of working with one of the highest sighted scientists on the environmental field like my advisor is, it was just great."
Paula Lantz is a UM SPH professor. She says, "We have a core curriculum in which all of our students are getting education and experience in both health management and health policy. You can’t be a good manager unless you understand the policy context and you can’t be a leader in terms of health policy, which we really need in our country right now unless you have good administrative and managerial skills. So it is an integrated curriculum in both health management and policy."
Bhramar Mukherjee is a UM SPH assistant professor. She says, "So you get this exceptional training, classic solid theory and then the individualized care of the faculty. I don’t think it is a question of whether they can find a job or not. It’s a question of are they good decision makers when they are faced with ten different job offers."
Emily Courey is a UM SPH student. She says, "There is such a robust alumni network and so virtually anywhere in the world you can find someone who has a Michigan connection and once you have that then it really opens up so many doors for you."
Julio Frenk is a UM SPH Alumnus and Senior Fellow at the Gates Foundation. "The School of Public Health is, you know, one of the top five schools in the country and it is a great university. Other places have very good schools of public health but here you have a great school in a great university in a fantastic city. So if you take all of that together I think it is a very good choice."
Dr. Sanjay Gupta closes, "The University of Michigan School of Public Health will embrace your educational and professional aspirations in an extremely supportive environment. As we continue to pioneer world health solutions. Come join us and become a part of the Michigan difference."
Closing music: What a Wonderful World.
