The Facts
Individual patients should be given greater support for improving their health and lowering overall health care costs, including incentives for achieving measurable health goals.

The November 2010 issue of Health Affairs, the most prominent health policy journal in the country, is a special issue devoted to the concept of value-based insurance design. The issue features articles focused on this topic, including one authored by V-BID Center faculty.
Over the past five years, the Center for Value-Based Insurance Design has led efforts to develop V-BID programs in the private sector and to position this concept within the recent healthcare reform legislation. This issue of Health Affairs affirms that leaders in all sectors of the healthcare enterprise view value-based insurance design as a promising step in improving healthcare, and we are delighted to announce this key milestone.
