Population concepts of R0 in virus reproduction and transmission systems
Within: (Population concept) The average number of new viruses per virus across several generations of virus reproduction as the virus is initially spread throughout the body.
Between: (Population concept) The average number of new infections per infection across the first several generations of transmission.
Both are more than simple counts. They take into account that individual counts can be different and that things can change in the first few generations.
