More than Morels!
Mushrooming in Michigan
The Michigan Mushroom Hunters Club

Mushrooming is a fascinating and rewarding hobby, and Michigan has many species of wild mushrooms that fruit from early Spring to late Fall.

In case of mushroom poisoning emergency, contact your physician, local hospital Emergency Department or the Regional Poison Center for SE Michigan, 1-800-764-7661 or 313-745-5711; elsewhere, 1-800-222-1222.
Please send a report to the Mushroom Poisoning Case Registry

Specimens wanted:
Craterellus spp
.  It has been so dry, and it is late now for Craterellus, but
.... Frances Trail is looking for specimens of Craterellus sp. fruiting bodies.  She and Chris Wright had a collection that many of you helped with. Unfortunately, it met with disaster last spring, and was unwittingly destroyed.  We would like to receive pieces of any fruiting bodies (no need to send your entire collection) along with the collection location (as specific as possible so we can distinguish strains).  Please mail them to: Frances Trail, Department of Plant Biology, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI 48824.  If you want me to pay for the postage, I would be happy to, just email me at trail@msu.edu or give me a call (517-432-2939).  Thanks to everyone, Frances.

Collybia luxurians:
Ed Mena, a microbiologist who extracts  compounds from fungi for medical research, has requested that we collect Collybia luxurians (Gymnopus luxurians) for him.
Please contact me at ssheine@aol.com or 248-652-9496,  if you find some.

Members, please tell us if you want to get the newsletter by email, and report changes of email/postal addresses to Antoine Delaforterie, antoineindetroit@yahoo.com, 248-506-9008.

People hunt mushrooms for various reasons:

                                                ▪for recreation
                                                ▪for food,
                                                ▪for photography,
▪to revive or maintain ethnic traditions,
▪for the companionship of people with shared interests,
▪for the intellectual challenge of learning about a separate living kingdom.
The Michigan Mushroom Hunters' Club, based in southeast Michigan, welcomes everyone interested in mushrooms, and has an active schedule of
events. The best way to learn about collecting wild mushrooms is to hunt with experienced collectors, and study mushroom books.
