Attending graduate school wasn’t always something that Catherine Garber thought would be obtainable. “Luckily, the University of Michigan School of Public Health has great funding opportunities that helped make my dream of getting a Master of Public Health possible,” said Garber, who is a member of the graduating Class of 2023 after earning a master’s degree in Health Behavior and Health Education.

When basketball superstar and Michigan native Earvin “Magic” Johnson of the Los Angeles Lakers announced in 1991 that he was HIV positive, not only did the news shock the world but it had a profound effect on the career path of Dr. Mysheika Roberts. Today, Roberts, an alumna of the University of Michigan School of Public Health, is the Columbus Public Health commissioner.

He’s pursuing dual master’s degrees, his very first flight was to a foreign country, and he’s gearing up for doctoral studies. Bond’s adventurous spirit is helping him build bridges between communities and the policies that affect them.
